Metal, Wood And Glass Are The Go To Materials for 2016
While not quite earth, wind, fire and water, elements of nature are dominating the material trends this year. It’s all about authenticity and organic appeal and what better way to achieve that look than by using natural materials.

!nspire tip: the elegance of a wood and glass dining is improved by the fact that it is easy to match chairs with it. You can include metal, wood and a variety of textiles and show tremendous style!
Material Trend #1: Metallics
When you think metallics in design, most people think of stainless steel appliances in the kitchen but really the trend is SO much more than that! Think brass, think gold, think accent lighting, table legs, backsplashes.. From bar stools to clocks, there are any number of ways to introduce metallics to your decor plans.
Particular for 2016 is the introduction of ‘warm metals’ such as rose gold, which while still having the clean lines of metal, pair beautifully with natural materials such as wood or stone.
Mixing other natural materials with metal finish is a style inspired from the designs of the 1970s, something many of us grew up with. But these new pieces are re-imagined for the 21st century and add a twist of the era to any room.

Material Trend #2: Wood
There is nothing more natural than wood and even more so if it is used in as organic a way as possible. What do we mean by that? Perhaps driftwood decorations for your Cape Cod style cottage? A distressed accent table that looks like it’s stood the test of time?

Some people call it ‘modern rustic’ but whatever name you want to give it, a more artisanal, natural approach to design seems to be where it’s at. This includes the bedroom, where the artful use of wood and natural fibers bring an outdoorsy feel inside without becoming kitsch.

!nspire tip: if you ever have a tree being felled on your property, see if you can salvage a part of the trunk or a ‘slice’. Finished off, the natural grain creates a beautiful side or coffee table.

Material Trend #3: Glass
Glass is always a classic that never goes out of style, and in the aim of maintaining a natural, organic feel, finding pieces that flow and feel natural is even better.
Think beyond tables when you think of glass. Beautiful blown lamps are also an excellent way to introduce this natural element. Tinted to a warm shade, you can create a glow in your decor that will invite one and all to sit and enjoy your space.
