Long Weekend Getaway Style

It’s All About Beach Grass And Sea Glass

Your home is your oasis, where you can ‘get away from it all’, or at least that’s the goal. For some, the ideal getaway is a cottage in the northern woods. For others, it’s a Paris cafe.  And still others enjoy the clean simplicity of a beachside hideaway, with the scent of sea breezes blowing through the windows and the grit of sand underfoot. If you are in that last group, take a look at some easy ways you can have the look of a beachside cottage in your home, bringing the getaway to the everyday.

Long Weekend Getaway Style – Décor Themes:

There are as many variations on the beach getaway theme as there grains of sand. Well, perhaps not quite that many. Just a few for you to peruse:

From nautical and seashore motifs to the simpler clean lines of natural fibers and light colors, you can bring a hint of your ideal beachside getaway by adding pieces of furniture that reflect the style. Then, it’s a question of accents and artwork to complete the look.

A mixture of natural and painted wood pieces helps to create that crisp look while still maintaining an organic feel.

Long Weekend Getaway Style – Color Schemes:

The ideal color schemes include bright white backgrounds with accents of nautical navy blue, sage green and naturals like brown and beige. Splashes of red or coral tie it all together and add some warmth to what are otherwise relatively ‘cool’ shades.

Having trouble deciding on a color scheme? You can’t go wrong with the white background first. If you start there and slowly add other colors in by introducing painted furniture, colorful textiles and even artwork, you can see how it pulls together to create a visual appeal that relaxes you at once.

Long Weekend Getaway Style – Space for Daydreams:

Comfort is the order of the day: sofas that beg to be luxuriated on with a good book after a hard day at the beach, coffee tables that hold glasses filled with a crisp, cold Sauvignon Blanc. The common spaces of your home should be comfortable enough that if someone tracks in a little sand or a few seashells, there’s no harm done. The casual elegance of this look is what’s appealing for family and friends to join you in some well-deserved downtime.

Adding some burnished wood furniture is a great way to warm up the color scheme a little – it brings to mind the hot sandy beach.

Set the table for your lobster boil with sisal placemats, grass centerpieces and a martini or two. After all, it’s what’s done on vacation, isn’t it?

Feeling relaxed in your home shouldn’t be something you only experience on vacation – have it every day.
