Introducing Inspire’s Designer at Large, Celia Alida Rutte!

March 25, 2015 by whm-blog-admin Leave a Comment

What does the spring & summer hold for !nspire? Lots! Including our new Designer at Large, Celia Alida Rutte.

Once a month, Celia will guest blog about home decorating trends, ideas and how to work !nspire products into your healing and beautiful environment.

But before we get started, we thought you’d like to know more about Celia so we asked her a few questions…

Why did you become an interior designer?

I became a designer by accident. In my 20’s, a psychic told me that I would eventually create beautiful and healing environments for people. Years later, I renovated my first home. I  enjoyed the experience immensely (I did most of the work myself).

People loved the renovation, in fact, I sold the house shortly afterwards for far above asking! I realized that I DID want to design healthy, serene and beautiful environments for people and, six month later, I was living in Toronto and enrolled in an interior design program.

What most inspires you about design?

I am inspired by things that are exceptionally beautiful. It doesn’t matter what form it comes in. It could be a fabric, a piece of furniture, a scene in a movie, people, landscapes, photography, flowers, architecture, clothing.

What do you love about the !nspire line?

The !nspire line is fun and several of the pieces I would even call quirky. There are pieces that you could design a room around because they act more like an accessory than a piece of furniture

What are the biggest home decorating trends you see for 2015?

Gold is making a major comeback. Currently I’m having a love affair with anything gold or midnight blue.

Wallpaper is pretty hot as well and not going anywhere soon.

High resolution imagery. You see it in wallpapers and on TV screens when the TV is turned off.

Outdoor garden rooms especially outdoor kitchens and living room areas that are decorated with the same hyper attention to detail that we apply to the interior of our homes.

Interior plants… we saw the return of the terrarium a few years back… succulents, airplants, solariums.

Responsive materials… examples of this would be counter tops that can recharge your cell phone battery, walls that become computer screens or televisions, faucets that turn on when you approach, and lights that turn off when you leave a room.
