Spring & Summer Décor Trends

Bring the outdoors in with organic shapes, a little light and a touch of the wild.

June is that in between month that we all love: It’s getting warmer but it’s not quite summer yet. Furniture and décor that make the inside of your home feel outdoorsy yet warm and cozy are a perfect balance.

Last month, we talked about how natural elements are dominating the trends: warm metals, organic materials, and natural woods. These reflect a need for harmony in our busy, busy world.

This month, we’re taking it a step further.

Spring & Summer Décor Trends #1: Organic Shapes And Textures

For most of us, living on a sprawling country estate isn’t in the cards. The urban jungle is more common, with huge numbers of us living in smaller, city dwellings with little to no green space attached.

You can bring the garden inside with terrariums that will green up your space in a totally manageable way:

Accent pieces that mimic the outdoors in your home without being overwhelming but allowing for the overall look to flow throughout is the goal of this trend. Opt for a natural but contemporary tree-like coat stand that gives the impression of branches but keeps to a clean design that will blend well in most any room design.

For larger pieces of furniture, keep to that organic, light, flowing feel by opting for rounded, natural shapes and materials. Sharp edges aren’t what you are looking for in this design.

Spring & Summer Décor Trends #2: Keeping It Light

The look and feel of summer needs light, as do the plants you have just brought indoors! If natural light isn’t abundant in your space, add soft lighting and mirrors, which will reflect indoor and the available natural light gently, throughout the room.

Ideally, you can layer your lighting by having multiple sources, at different heights, as opposed to one source. The latter can be much harsher because in order to be bright enough to be functional, you will need a high wattage.

Diffused, colored lighting — using lightly tinted bulbs or shades — is the most flattering and can warm up a darker space in an instant.

Spring & Summer Décor Trends #3: Inspired By Animals

Animal prints are a fun way to bring a little whimsy into your home. Of course, you need to balance such a vibrant and eye-catching print with complementary but more muted tones. That said, nothing says outdoors like a cow-hide pattern. In fact, the Angus chair has been a fan favorite since we first launched the !nspire brand back in 2014!

You can add animal prints in other ways. Imagine pillows made from this fabulous zebra print fabric from the Online Fabric Store:

Whether you are about the soft, muted pinks of colored lighting or some wild animal prints, bringing the outdoors in is a great way to keep the warm winds of June flowing through your home, twelve months of the year.
