Patriotic Décor, All Year Round

A little patriotic design goes a long way.

We might all love “Stars and Stripes Forever” and there is no doubt that between Flag Day and the 4th of July, there is plenty of cause to decorate in red, white and blue. The challenge, from a design point of view, is seeing how you can incorporate a little of the stars and stripes in your everyday décor without it being… shall we say, overwhelming?

Patriotic Décor Tip #1: Decorate BIG For The Party!

Spend a little time online and you’ll find a range of projects and decorations that will bring all the patriotic pizazz you could ever want to your home.

Patriotic Décor Tip #2: Keep The Look Going Through Color

Once the festivities are done for the year and your decorations have come down and been put away, you can still show your love for your country in ways that won’t inundate your home.

Color has a lot of meaning and combinations of color suggest a theme without necessarily papering the walls with the flag. Furniture in red, white and blue, for example, gives you the vibrancy of those colors and will evoke good feelings, reminding you that you are in a great place.

The pieces below, the Lana bench, the Krista cabinet and the Lydia cocktail ottoman are all great examples of ways you can bring in individual pieces of furniture, against a simpler background of more muted tones, and have some stand out visuals!

Patriotic Décor Tip #3: Stars, Stripes And Other Patterns

The handmade, easy to wash rugs from Lorena Canals have a great option that would make an outstanding focal point:

Whether for the living room or the bedroom, pillows are a great way to throw some patterns into your everyday:

Other accents need not have the color but all of the characteristics of the stars and stripes! Rough hewn metals give a down home country feel that still pops out, visually.

Classic American design reaches well beyond the red, white and blue though. Example? Take a handsome piece of furniture and dial it up a level by adding some star or flag shaped hardware.
