Kitchen Decor Trends for Summer
Bringing A Taste Of Summer To Your Kitchen
You already have your backyard set up for drinks on the patio, pool parties and backyard BBQs, but while you’ve been outside tending to your green and perfecting your patio look, your kitchen has been left in the depth of winter.
We’ve thought of a few easy fixes to brighten things up and add colour and energy to the most important room in the house…
Striking Contrasts
Does your kitchen backsplash need a makeover? Working on your backsplash is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to introduce a bit of summer to your kitchen. The more contrast the better.
There are several specialized paints out there that are perfect for tile and often it only takes one coat, (time saver!) so commit to something bright and cheery.
Remember, contrast is the key word—not clash.
If you’re worried about going overboard with your backsplash, you could opt for a beautiful contrast piece of furniture instead, like our Morocco Bench in Weathered Grey, which would look beautiful under a kitchen window.
Thirsty, Anyone?
Summer beverages require fabulous glassware.
One of the easiest ways to lighten up the look of any room is to display glassware. In the case of a kitchen, we’re big fans of glass lemonade/water stands. Depending on your existing décor, you may opt for a vintage pouring jug or an ultra-modern glass stand.
We fell in love with this classic glass water stand from Pottery Barn:
Make it part of your routine to have a fresh summer beverage on hand to serve when company comes over, or simply when the mood strikes you on a hot day.
Another option is to display pretty glassware or crystal on an open shelf of cabinet. For example, your collection of red and white wine goblets would look lovely lined up on either the Amelia or Athena console tables depending on your existing décor.
If you’re lucky enough to have a collection of colored glass, summer is the time to show it off! Even the darkest and most traditional décor can be livened up with colored glass!
Liven Up The Little Things
Kitchens are often pristine, all-white spaces. And one of the biggest summer trends is to incorporate color in unexpected areas for that extra pop of summer cheer. It’s time to liven up the little things!
Start with your dishtowels. It’s easy to go for basic whites and stripes throughout the year, but once summer hits you should expand your horizons to bright yellows, greens, turquoises or pinks—Whatever suits your taste. Patterns are great too. The bolder the better.
Mixing bowls, cutting boards, tablecloths, place mats and even utensils are all little things you can liven up while staying mindful of your budget. Use color to your advantage!
Now that we’ve shared our summer kitchen trends with you, it’s time for you to share yours with us. How do you plan on bringing a taste of summer to your kitchen this year? We’d love to know!
