Going Bold Without Going Overboard

When is Bold Décor Just Too Much?

We’re often asked how to make an impact in the home without getting carried away.

We find that many people want to try new décor ideas, but are either too scared to take the risk or they go overboard, resulting in a major décor disaster.

It’s time to clear things up by saying that going bold doesn’t mean painting every room hot pink! Or mixing every print under the sun!

We promise there are easier (and classier) ways to make a statement in your home without taking it that far…

Bold Tip #1: Choose A Room

Overhauling every room in the house simultaneously isn’t just exhausting, but nearly impossible. Don’t set yourself up for failure and design burnout.

Remember, you’re one person (or a duo if you’ve got your partner on board) but that doesn’t warrant trying to do it all at once. Even the best décor teams tend to tackle one room at a time!

Start by focusing your attention in one area that could use a little spice. Think about it: Which room have you been dying to redecorate? Which room are you looking to make a major impact in?

If you’re still unsure where to begin, we suggest starting with the main room in the house and working your way outward.

The living room is a fantastic place to start because it’s the focal point of most homes. It’s where a lot of the entertaining is done and it’s a fabulous place to go bold.

Bold Tip #2: Ethnic Inspired Themes

One of the easiest (and most fun) ways to make a statement is to choose a theme and run with it. This is especially a great idea when you’re not-so-décor-savvy, as it gives you a starting point and plenty of ideas to work with.

A big trend right now is to play around with ethnic-inspired décor from around the world.

What country inspires you? Perhaps you’ve traveled to Africa and can draw inspiration from the safari and desert landscapes. Think: Hues of oranges and browns, animal prints and natural wooden accessories.

This bold [Pawz] Zebra Accent Chair by Worldwide homefurnishings would be a perfect addition for a safari theme – incredibly unique – a true conversation piece.

Bold Tip #3: Unique Personal Touches

When making a bold statement it’s easy to suggest common design tips like wallpapering one wall or mixing the elements (all fabulous décor ideas!) but sometimes it’s nice to go a little more personal.

What makes you unique? Are you an avid antique collector? Do you have a passion for refinishing old furniture? Everyone has something special about themselves to infuse into their home décor, giving it that je ne sais quoi.

For instance, let’s say you have a mighty collection of antique pie plates. A beautiful way to make a statement could be displaying them in a cluster across an entire wall. Imagine the visual impact that would make?
