Furniture Arranging Mistakes—Solved

Have you ever looked around your space and thought something wasn’t quite right? Your furniture layout could be the culprit!

You can have the most gorgeous furniture in the world, but arranging it wrong can throw off the entire room.

Here are three mistakes to avoid (and how to fix them!) when arranging your furniture:

Furniture Arranging Mistake #1: Beds that Partially Block a Window

A bed or headboard that peeks over a window frame not only looks odd from the outside, it throws the eye off balance.

It’s not a big deal when your bed sits evenly and proportionally underneath a set of windows; your biggest design flaw comes when you have no choice but to place your bed against a single window that doesn’t line up with the bed.

There are a couple of things you can do to combat this.

Choose a bed with a shorter headboard

If your bed must sit against a window, the last thing you want is a giant headboard covering your entire source of light.

Choose a bed with a stouter headboard that falls just above or below your window frame.

Shorter headboards can still provide stylish storage.

Create a symmetrical backdrop with curtains

The problem with putting a bed against a single window is the lack of symmetry that confuses the eye.

Create the illusion of symmetry by extending a set of curtains past the existing window to the other side, forming a solid double backdrop for your bed; this way it appears your bed is against a pair of windows rather than single one.

If that particular window is your only source of light, keep one curtain open and leave the other one closed. If you’re lucky enough to have a second source of natural light, keep both curtains closed and let the backdrop speak for itself.

Furniture Arranging Mistake #2: Ignoring Smaller Furniture

Smaller furniture is just as functional as oversized furniture!

The problem with larger furniture is it quickly takes up space, leaving you no other options for arrangement.

Bold doesn’t have to mean BIG. When you choose smaller, streamlined pieces, you have the luxury of playing with your layout until you get it right. You also have more options to change your layout throughout the seasons or as you purchase new accent pieces.

Instead of opting for an oversized coffee table to make an impact, go for something slimmer and unique like the Akram Coffee Table in Dark Sheesham. Its handcrafted one-of-a-kind design offers the bold look you desire without the bulky size.

Slimmer styles can still make a statement.

Because you save on square footage, you have the option of complimenting your coffee table with matching accent tables to finish the look.

Furniture Arranging Mistake #3: Thinking Single Function

When selecting and arranging furniture you should consider all the activities that happen in that particular space.

The kitchen, for instance, sees a lot of traffic; therefore dual functioning furniture is something to think about, especially if your kitchen is small.

The Apollo Breakfast Table Set is a fabulous choice for high-traffic kitchens because it acts as a cozy breakfast nook allowing for plenty of walking space, yet doubles as an area for easy storage.

Use dual functioning furniture in tighter spaces.
