Décor Tips for Small Bathrooms

How to Make a Small Bathroom Feel More Spacious

Getting ready in the morning with barely enough elbow space to blow dry your hair: It’s the curse of the small bathroom.

Is it just us or is this every woman’s nightmare?

Most of us equate space with luxury. So what can you do when you feel like your bathroom walls are closing in on you?

Follow our simple décor tips to find out…

Small Bathroom Tip#1: Simple Storage

When we think of storage we think of drawers and cabinets. But when it comes to small bathrooms, cabinet storage isn’t always an ideal space-saver.

So what’s the solution?

Stop settling for basic towel hooks! Go beyond the average option and try a decorative shelf and hook combo instead.

The wonderful thing about shelf and hook combos is they allow you to display accessories and toiletries above rather than below. This makes things easier to grab and gives you more space to move around without bumping into bulky storage features.

The less crowded the floor space is, the roomier your bathroom feels.

And don’t forget to make use of what’s already in your bathroom. Many have built in ledges or window frames that can be used as a form of shelving.

Every square inch counts. Work with what you have and maximize your space the best you can. (The back of the toilet is a completely acceptable storage spot when it has to be!)

Small Bathroom Tip #2: Mega Mirrors

It’s no secret that mirrors are every designer’s go-to option for creating the illusion of space.

With that in mind, install the largest mirror your bathroom can accommodate above your sink. This will bounce light around the room and increase the visual space.

You could also opt for a tiled mirrored backsplash or a cluster of smaller mirrored pieces on the bathroom wall. Many mirrored pieces now come in affordable packs of 4-6 with adhesive backing for easy placement.

If your smaller bathroom is more on the medium side, a standing mirror is a fabulous statement piece to display, especially in an awkward corner where you’re not sure what to do.

Our favorite pick is the Reflex Standing Mirror in Satin Nickel from our sister company Worldwide Home Furnishings. It oozes sophistication and its sleek finish and minimal frame are a perfect finishing touch for any small space.

Just make sure it’s placed away from the door and we’d recommend you secure it so it’s not tilting into you as you step out of the shower.

Small Bathroom Tip #3: Hang Your Curtain High

Our favorite (and super on-trend way) to !nspire the illusion of space is to hang your shower curtain close to the ceiling. It immediately creates a touch of drama in your bathroom and makes your space feel taller than it actually is.

Have fun with your shower curtain! We recommend choosing an airy or clear print to further the illusion of depth.

Several design and décor stores are now catering to small bathrooms by offering fabulous clear prints in varieties of hues and styles, so be on the lookout for anything to maximize your space.

(!nspire tip: This décor trick actually works for all small rooms. Hanging curtains high to the ceiling instantly makes a room feel airier and spacious.)

We hope these tips have !nspired you to make the most of your small bathroom. Do you have any other helpful tips on maximizing a small space? We’d love to hear them in the comments below…
