3 Gorgeous Home Décor Trends for October
October is here and it’s official: Autumn has entered the building!
While messy faux spider webs and tacky Halloween window decals are great for the kids, they’re not so !nspiring in the modern home décor arena.
There are plenty of exciting trends to try indoors this month—and they don’t come with scary witch faces—so save the gaudy accessories for outdoors.
These October home décor trends will give you chills in all the right ways.
October Home Decor Trend #1: Vivacious Velvet
October is the ideal time to introduce cozier items to warm up the home. Velvet is a recurring fall trend because of its richness, texture and warmth—A luxurious addition to your fall decor in all rooms of the house (even the kitchen!)
If you already have a velvet sofa or love seat, consider yourself perfectly on trend this month. If not, there are still plenty of ways to incorporate this gorgeous fabric into your home.
Drapes are an impactful way to add texture and warmth to a room; especially if you go the velvet route. They instantly add a regal element and encapsulate a rich vibe not found in any other fabric. Hang your velvet drapes from ceiling to floor and tie them back with brassy gold tassels for an upscale, royal look.
If velvet drapes are too bold for your taste, go subtle instead.
Surprisingly, the kitchen is a great place to start. Velvet placemats, table runners and napkin holders are popular this month.
Work your way into the living room and cover your summer pillows with velvet slips and toss a velvet throw over your favorite tub chair. The same goes for the bedroom—cozy, comfortable and luxurious.
October Home Decor Trend #2: Candle Clusters
With the cool fall air creeping its way into your home, it’s time to start paying attention to your mantle and fireplace.
For those with working fireplaces, we envy you! However there are still options for those without.
Buying a simulated heat source is one route, but not always the most unique or cost effective. We suggest candles instead.
Big, small, tall, fat or wide, it doesn’t matter; now is the time to round up your candles and begin creating a cluster within your fireplace or atop your mantle.
If you don’t have a mantle or fireplace, no worries, candle clusters look just as lovely on shelves and tabletops centerpieces.
This trend might not appeal to minimalists because of its mismatched effect, but works perfectly for those with more of a rustic taste.
It’s all about bringing warmth to your space, so give it a shot where you see fit.
A word of caution, keep those candles away from the velvet curtains mentioned above and never leave them unattended! This goes double if you have kids or dogs.
October Home Decor Trend#3: Storing & Stacking Wood
While we’re on the topic of fireplaces, putting your firewood on display is an ongoing trend as we slowly make our way into winter.
Organized firewood not only looks rustic and chic, but is one of the easiest ways to incorporate fall elements in your space. In fact, purchasing or designing something that makes your firewood a focal point in the room is our favorite trend this season.
We’re not talking about the indoor stone wood holders that were popular in the 80s (although to each their own!) We’re thinking of updated, sleeker options like this wood shelve by Trine Thorsen as featured in the www.remodelista.com blog…
Where to stack? Great question. We suggest putting your firewood on display in whichever room has your fireplace; however, piled wood still looks fabulous in rooms without.
Simply make sure your wood is nice and dry and be prepared to sweep or vacuum around it every few days.
Bookshelves are an unexpected and unique place for stacked wood (you could easily create a look similar to the pictures above from Remodelista), as are side tables and even underneath console tables.
The Trenton rectangular console table in distressed pine provides a cozy nook for your firewood and acts as a beautiful modern complement against the rustic grain of the wood—A great option if you plan on giving this trend a go.
